Ambassador Emad Hanna received the Executive Director of the Save the Children Office in the Netherlands. The meeting addressed Egypt’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip, as well as the role played by the organization in supporting these efforts.
During the meeting, the Ambassador reviewed Egypt’s intensive political and humanitarian efforts in connection with the situation in the Gaza Strip. These efforts culminated in Egypt’s hosting of the Peace Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, which represented a pivotal milestone aimed at halting the bloodshed and destruction in Gaza and coordinating cooperation with regional and international partners in pursuit of a sustainable solution to the tragic and deteriorating situation there, which has persisted for more than two years. These efforts also aim to ensure the return of displaced persons to their homes, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, and to pave the way for fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state within the framework of the two-state solution.
In this context, the Ambassador referred to Egypt’s ongoing contacts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, as well as the political leadership’s keenness to ensure the regular and uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip. He also highlighted the efforts undertaken to provide medical services to the people of Gaza, whether through supporting medical capacities within the Strip or by receiving patients and wounded individuals in Egyptian hospitals for treatment.
For his part, the Executive Director of the Save the Children Office in the Netherlands expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in efforts to halt the war in Gaza and in reconstruction endeavors amid the widespread destruction in the Strip. He commended Egypt’s support for the work of civil society organizations, including his own organization, enabling them to carry out their expected humanitarian role.
The Director of the organization also reviewed the measures and programs adopted recently to support the children of Gaza, including strengthening the capacities of healthcare facilities within the Strip and facilitating access to medical treatment for wounded and ill children in European countries, within the framework of ongoing cooperation with international partners and relevant stakeholders
